DR. MARCELA MOLINA has been leading the Tucson Girls Chorus since 2006, initially serving as Artistic Director and taking the helm as Executive Director in 2011. In addition to guiding the executive and artistic vision of the organization, Dr. Molina conducts the Advanced Choir (grades 9-12) and the Alumnae choir. Under her direction, the Tucson Girls Chorus has experienced significant growth in both programming and community engagement. Throughout her tenure, the TGC has transformed into a dynamic and collaborative organization that offers inclusive programming for youth and provides resources and support to music educators year-round. In addition to her impactful work with the TGC, Dr. Molina serves as the Director of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra Chorus.


Dr. Molina's achievements have garnered significant recognition: she was named Choral Director of the Year by AzACDA in 2019, honored in Tucson's 40 Under 40 in 2011, and selected as a Cox Hispanic Heritage Month honoree in 2014. Additionally, she was a finalist for the Woman of Influence Awards in the Arts and Culture Champion category in 2016. Under her leadership, the Tucson Girls Chorus received the Copper Cactus Award for Charitable Business in 2017.


Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Dr. Marcela Molina earned her degrees from Westminster Choir College and the University of Arizona. She has contributed her expertise through articles and book chapters in respected choral publications, including Antiphon, Teaching through Performance in Choir, Volume 2, and Choral Reflections: Insights from American Choral Conductor-Teachers. Dr. Molina frequently serves as a clinician and guest conductor at choral festivals nationwide. She has been a board member of the AzACDA, has participated in standing committees for the ACDA Western Division, and currently serves on the boards of Chorus America and ACDA Western Division.
